Canada GHS – WHMIS Implementation Dates Delayed

Manufacturers have until June 1, 2018 to comply with HPR Categories: Industry News May 25, 2017

WHMIS implementation dates have been officially  delayed.  As per Health Canada, “Manufacturers and importers now have until June 1, 2018 to comply with the HPR. The deadline of June 1, 2017 has been delayed by one year to June 1, 2018.”

Additionally, a second deadline of June 1, 2018 requiring Canadian distributors to also comply with WHMIS 2015 has been delayed by three months to September 1, 2018.  Health Canada promises details to be published in the Canada Gazette Part II via Orders and a Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement  (RIAS) .  WHMIS 2015 is Canada’s workplace adoption of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).   WHMIS 2015 is in force in Canada by amendments to the Hazardous Products Act (HPA) and the February 11, 2015 Canada Gazette, Part II publication of the Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR).
